Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)

         In pursuance of UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions) Regulations, 2015 read with Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and in partial modification by UGC, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is re-constituted for considering complaints relating to sexual harassment at work place. According to the Act of 2013, the St Joseph University is committed to maintain and create an academic and work environment free of sexual harassment for students, academic staff and non-teaching staff of St Joseph University. The details regarding the Act & rules, role, functions etc. of ICC are as given below:

Complaint procedure

  • Complaint regarding Sexual Harassment against women can be made either by filling a complaint form or by sending e-mail to ICC.
  • The Act stipulates that aggrieved woman can make written complaint of sexual harassment at workplace to the ICC within a period of three months from the date of incident and in case of a series of incidents, within a period of three months from the date of last incident.
  • As per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Rules, 2013, in case the aggrieved woman is unable to make a complaint on account of her physical incapacity, a complaint may be filed by her relative or friend or her co-worker or a faculty who has knowledge of the incident, with the written consent of the aggrieved woman.
  • On receipt of a complaint ICC shall conduct preliminary enquiry so as to ascertain the truth of the allegations by collecting the documentary evidence as well as recording statements of any possible witnesses including the complainant.
  • ICC shall then submit the preliminary enquiry report to Dean of student affairs along with all the original documents presented during the preliminary enquiry proceedings.
  • In case the allegations are not in the nature of sexual harassment, ICC may refer such complaints to the Grievance Redressal Cell or to the Dean of student affair.
